Cong taking action on price rise, Maoists: Singhvi

New Delhi, January 11: Congress today rejected its ally Trinamool Congress’ reported criticism of its handling of the price rise and Maoist issues, saying the party was taking strong action on both fronts.

“We are ourselves taking strong cognisance and taking action. All in the coalition are concerned. We have a deep, genuine concern…All steps are being taken,” party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

Asked about Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s reported statement about the government’s handling of Maoists, Singhvi said the problem was being tackled consciously.

Singhvi also dismissed Banerjee’s reported remark that the Centre was taking the CPI(M) into confidence on these issues.

“There is no question of taking CPI(M) in confidence.

There may be some communication gap…” he said.

He said in the last 12-15 months, national security has been considerably strengthened and external issues pertaining to national security have come under control.
