‘Cong started new trend of denying ticket to kin’

Shimla, October 25: Denial of ticket to wife of Union Steel minister Virbhadra Singh is the start of a “new trend” in the Congress of not entertaining kin of leaders in ticket allocation as viewed by General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, a senior party leader said today.

“Himachal Pradesh has become the first state where this trend has been set in motion”, state Congress president Kaul Singh Thakur told reporters when asked about denial of ticket to Pratibha Singh, wife of Virbhadra Singh, in the by-poll to Rohroo assembly seat in Shimla district.

Rahul Gandhi on his visit to the hill state on October 13 had observed allotment of ticket to relatives of politicians and nominations in party organisation was a “reality” and said he has started a campaign against this through party’s frontal organisations–Youth Congress and NSUI.
