Chandigarh, March 17: The opposition congress today raised the issue of certified wheat seed supplied by the Punjab government to farmers under the National Food Security Mission, alleging that the government was not extending full central subsidy to the peasantry and the seeds were spurious.
Addressing a press conference outside the Vidhan Sabha, leader of opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and MLA Sunil Jhakhar said the central government had given subsidy on certified wheat seeds under the national food security mission.
Under this, the farmer is given Rs 700 subsidy per quintal, but the state government is giving only Rs 500 subsidy per quintal under this scheme and no subsidy was given from November 1 to 15 which was the sowing season.
“The government buys the certified wheat seed at Rs 1,750 per quintal and sells it to the farmer at Rs 1,250 per quintal.
