Cong open for new leaders: Ponnala

Doors are open for leaders who can with the policies of the Congress party, according to Telangana Congress Committee Chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah. Interacting with media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here he said that many leaders will join their party fold soon. In a surprising manner leaders from other parties are evincing keen interest in our party for keeping its promise of giving statehood for Telangana. AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi will participate in a meeting be held in Hyderabad by March end, Ponnala Lakshmaiah said. Though the party is open for any noted leaders, Lakshmaiah denied tickets to former minister Konda Surekha and her husband K Murali. And later they joined TRS fold with no other go.
Ponnala said that at this juncture of general elections we are open to prospective leaders who can make it big at poll arena, he said. Of course, there are many leaders of other political parties willing to join the Congress as they believe in us, he said. The Congress chief said that they are least bothered of alliance with the TRS or others.
We will finalise the list of candidates by month end, he said. Lists came from District Congress Committees were sent to election committee of party high command for scrutiny. Only the leaders with public faith will be given a chance to contest the elections on MLA, MP tickets he said. We are focusing on strengthening our party and involve all leaders and activists to play a key role in the general elections. We are holding surveys on the winning chances of sitting candidates he said.
The Telangana Congress will sure offer tickets to the leaders if the leaders have people faith, he observed. He also stated that the party will not encourage leaders if they don’t have public faith. Thus he said that winning horses will get a chance in the general elections to come. The Congress will fight it alone if there is no alliance with other parties. When asked he said that the high command will take a final call on the alliances and we will follow suit, Lakshmaiah added. (NSS)
