Cong MPs demand release of Cheruku Sudhakar

New Delhi, December 08: Congress MPs from the Telangana region on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of Parliament in protest against the detention of TRS politburo member Cheruku Sudhakar for 12 months under the National Security Act, 1980.

The Congress MPs staged the dharna in front of Parliament’s Gate 1 demanded that the government withdraw all the cases against Cheruku Sudhakar. Addressing the media persons at the Parliament’s Gate, the MPs criticised the state government for foisting cases against Telangana activists in order to dilute the statehood agitation. Demanding unconditional release of Cheruku Sudhakar, Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki Goud said that the government was resorting to coercive methods against the activists to suppress the agitation. He said the MPs would take up this issue to the notice of Congress High Command and the Centre seeking justice. He said the MPs would ask the Congress High Command to lift the cases against the activists and students who participated in the agitation for statehood.

Yashki asked Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar reddy to honour his promise of lifting cases against Cheruku Sudhakar, students and others activists. He said the Telangana Ministers and MLAs should mount pressure on the state government to lift cases against all activists and show their commitment towards statehood.

MP Manda Jagannatham said the Telangana MLAs should have pressed for Telangana Resolution in the assembly during the No Confidence Motion. He said the government would have bow down to pressure of Telangana MLAs if they would have pressed for Telangana Resolution.

MP Ponnam Prabhakar said the Kiran Kumar Government has survived with the support of Telangana Congress MLAs, who voted against the No Confidence Motion. However, he said the MLAs from the region voted against the motion hoping that the High Command would announce a favourable decision on Telangana state. “At least now, the High Command should announce the creation of Telangana state without dragging it further,” he stated.

Ponnam warned that the MPs would intensify their agitation if the government fails to withdraw cases against Cheruku Sudhakar. MP T Rajaiah was also present in the dharna.
