Cong MP for better coastal security in Mumbai

New Delhi, November 18: A strong plea was made today by a Congress MP to strengthen coastal security in Mumbai in view of the 26/11 terrorist strike in the city last year.

Lok Sabha member from North Mumbai, Sanjay Nirupam, in a letter to Home Minister P Chidambaram said since his constituency has a long coast line, strengthening of coastal security has become crucial and pointed to the lacunae in security.

“Last week I visited the coastal line in the western coastal area of my constituency along with local police officers. After spending almost five hours, I realised that there is no security arrangement from Gorai to Manori which is 12 km stretch,” Nirupam said in his letter.

He said there was no coast guard check posts, no lighting arrangements and no fencing.
