Freedom fighter and former UP minister Khyali Ram Bhagat today passed away at the age of 95 after a prolonged illness here. Bhagat was an MLA in the first Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in session from 1952 to 1957. He is survived by his son, a grandson and two granddaughters. Bhagat, a veteran Congress leader, was involved in freedom movement from 1937 till Independence. A three-time MLA, Bhagat also served as a UP cabinet minister during Banarsi Das Gupta regime in 1979. He breathed his last in a local hospital here this evening, his son Umesh Kaushik said, adding that last rites will take place tomorrow. PTI
