Cong MLA Aruna “resigns” demanding Gadwal district

Congress senior leader and Gadwal MLA D.K. Aruna on Saturday resigned from the Telangana Assembly demanding district status to Gadwal.

Aruna signed her resignation letter in the presence of media before addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan. Although the resignation letter is addressed to Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary, she said she was sending the letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao with a request for getting it accepted from the Speaker. She also wrote a seperate letter to the Chief Minister stating that she was resigning from post as TRS Government was not ready to announce Gadwal district only because she was the MLA representing Gadwal.

Aruna, who has been spearheading a movement for Gadwal district, that the people Gadwal has been agitating since a long time. However, she said their padyatras, dharnas and other modes of agitation were being ignored by the Chief Minister as she was representing Gadwal Assembly segment. She alleged that some TRS leaders have stated that the Chief Minister would never grant district status to Gadwal untill she represents the constituency as MLA. Therefore, she said she was submitting her resignation from the post.

The Congress leader said Gadwal district was more important to her than her MLA’s post. (INN)
