Cong member angry over Mamata’s remark in RS

New Delhi, March 11: A Rajya Sabha member from the ruling Congress today took exception to Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks that money for the railways would not come from the heavens.

“How can you say this?” Praveen Rashtrapal said in the Upper House during Banerjee’s reply to a debate on the Railway Budget.

When Banerjee objected to his comments, Rashtrapal walked out in protest.

Defending involvement of the private sector in Railway infrastructure projects, she said, “Where will the money come from? It will not drop from the heavens.”

Banerjee said Railways would require Rs one lakh crore for clearing pending projects.

Stung by Rashtrapal’s remarks that some ministers were “not obeying” discipline of the government, Banerjee had left the House yesterday.

Rashtrapal had said, “…there are ministers who are not obeying the discipline of the government in spite of being in the Cabinet…
