The Union Minister for Human Resources and Development, Kapil Sibal, on Monday said that directions would be issued to Congress-led state governments to treat Muslim students for admission in schools under the 25 per cent economically weaker section quota mandated by RTE.
A spokesman of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind in a statement e-mailed to Greater Kashmir said a high level delegation of JUH called on Sibal here and reminded him about the promises he had made to them at the JUH 31st general session held at Ram Lila ground here.
The HRD Minister, according to the spokesman, assured the delegation that he stood by his promise and would soon direct the concerned officials for implementation.
Sibal, the spokesman said, admitted the socio- economic and education backwardness of the community and assured the delegation that steps would be taken with regard to establishment of quality education schools in minority dominated areas.
“On the issue of 25 per cent quota for weaker section under RTE Sibal assured the delegation that directions will be issued to Congress- led state governments to treat Muslim students for admission in schools under the economically weaker section quota mandated by RTE. But he failed to give any assurance about the non-Congress led states. Instead he urged Muslims organizations to strongly demand from these governments referring to Congress-led- state government’s initiative. Sibal also assured the delegation about issuing postal stamp after the name of Maulana Mahmood Hasan Deobandi and Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani. And promised to establish residential campus college for girls in Muslim dominated areas,” the JUH spokesman said.
The delegation, he said, was led by JUH President Maulana Qari Syed Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri included Maulana Mahmud Madani JUH general secretary, Prof Akhtarul Wasey head of Islamic studies JMI, Maulana Niaz Ahmad Farooqui, Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi and Siraj Hashmi Amroha.
