Cong leaders step up efforts for favourable decision on Telangana

Amid reports that the Centre is mulling various options to address the contentious statehood issue, Congress leaders in both Telangana and non-Telangana regions have stepped up efforts to get a favourable decision.

The Telangana Congress leaders would be organising a public meeting here on June 30 to highlight the statehood demand.

They plan to send out the message that Congress leaders from the region are leaving no stone unturned to achieve the statehood.

Former PCC President D Srinivas, who reportedly met the Congress high command recently for consultations on the issue, today said an atmosphere of cooperation is prevailing in the state.

He hailed leaders of all regions saying they will abide by the decision of the central leadership on Telangana issue.

Meanwhile, ministers and other leaders from Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions had a meeting this evening to discuss the issue and expressed confidence that the state would remain united.

Union Textiles Minister K S Rao, a strong advocate of united Andhra Pradesh, told reporters that there is no change in his views though he conceded that being a member of the Union Cabinet, he would abide by the decision of the central leadership.
