Hyderabad, May 12: Congress leaders here held protests against the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh over the arrest of party general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
State Congress president D Srinivas and other leaders organised the protest at the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Gandhi Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters.
A group of party workers raised slogans against the Mayawati government and burnt her effigy.
Condemning the arrest of Rahul Gandhi, Srinivas hit out at the Mayawati government for its alleged dictatorial attitude.
Similar protests were also organised elsewhere in Andhra Pradesh over the issue.
Rahul, who spent almost 19 hours at Bhatta Parasul village in Uttar Pradesh — the epicentre of the farmers’ agitation, was arrested at around 11.00 pm last night and later released on bail and brought to Delhi late last night.
