New Delhi, September 17: Joining the austerity drive ordered by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the Congress government in Delhi on Wednesday directed its Ministers and MLAs to donate 20 per cent of their salary for drought relief.
The State General Adminsitration Department has issued a circular in this regard asking all the ministers and MLAs to practise austerity and donate at least 20 per cent of their salary for drought aid.
DPCC chief J P Aggawal, who is a Lok Sabha MP from North East Delhi, told the news agency that the step would send a good message among the people at a time when the nation is going through a natural calamity.
“I told them that we must follow our leader Sonia Gandhi who set an example by travelling economy class to Mumbai. Rahul Gandhi also travelled to Ludhiana in a Chair Car seat in the Shatabdi Express to set an example,” he said.
