Cong councillors protest in EDMC House

New Delhi: Congress councillors in the BJP-ruled East Delhi Municipal Corporation today protested inside the EDMC House over a number of issues including property tax and alleged commercial use of the land alloted for the civic body’s headquarters.

“Members of the Congress in EDMC had initially planned to do a sit-in outside the House but later protested inside the House by raising placards to register protest over various issues,” an EDMC official said.

Besides, property tax, other issues which figured during the agitation included the land alloted to EDMC for its headquarters.

“The Congress councillors alleged that the land was being rented out for private functions in violation of the DDA rules,” the official said.

The House passed the day’s resolution despite the protest, he said.
