Cong-BJP war escalates, verbal duel rages on

New Delhi, June 08: Under fire for the midnight crackdown on Baba Ramdev, the Congress went into the offensive on Tuesday, hitting out at the BJP.

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh said LK Advani should be ashamed of himself for comparing the Ramdev eviction to Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

“Advani should be ashamed of comparing Jallianwala massacre to the Ramlila Maidan incident. BJP should be ashamed that their leaders danced at Rajghat where people go to pay their respects. The party must apologise to the nation. They should be ashamed that their Ram yatra is ending with Ramdev yatra,” he said.

Digvijaya Singh mocked the BJP’s efforts to get on to the Ramdev bandwagon. He also mocked the BJP for calling Ramdev Swami Vivekananda’s successor.

Digvijaya Singh claimed that the midnight crackdown on Baba ramdev was a police decision.

“There is a difference between the political party and the government. This was not a decision of the political party, it was by the Delhi police,” he said.

The BJP was quick to hit back. Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley hinted that the prime minister is just a rubber stamp with Sonia controlling everything.

Countering the Congress, Jaitley said that the government is a headless chicken and questioned as to how can the Gandhis claim to have been unaware of the Ramlila maidan crackdown.

“Have never seen tear gas shelling in an enclosed environment. Whoever decided, whether its the Home ministry or the police, it was the worst form of policing,” said Jaitley.

“Congress party is trying to divert public attention from the main issue of corruption, black money and crackdown in Ramlila grounds,” tweeted Sushma Swaraj.
