Cong, BJP flay Mulayam’s bulldozer remarks

New Delhi, June 27: Congress and BJP on Saturday criticised Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s remark that he would bulldoze all memorials constructed by Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh but both the parties maintained that huge public money was wasted for the project.

“As far as Mulayam Singh Yadav’s statement that we will run a bulldozer (on the constructions), we are not in favour of this culture. Whatever construction has been made, Congress Party does not believe in such bulldozer culture if the constructions have been done by any elected government,” AICC General Secretary in-charge for Uttar Pradesh Digvijay Singh told reporters here.

“Congress is very clear that it has nothing to do with the on going spat between SP and BSP in UP on the issue. The basic issue is: should people’s money be wasted in this manner as has been done in UP?,” he said.

Referring to Yadav’s remarks, BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said this was not the way to function in a democracy.

Rudy said Mayawati by unveiling her own statue made a “making a mockery” of her ideology and herself.

“The installation and unveiling of her own statues by the UP chief minister is a serious issue. The solution is not just criticism of such acts but her answerability to the people. Crores of money from public exchequer has been spent,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters here.
