Kozhikode, April 11: Congress leader K K Ramachandran, who was served a showcause notice by KPCC for his outbursts against senior leaders in the run up to Assembly polls, today said the party’s present ‘base’ in Kerala was not strong.
“I feel very sad about the present position of Congress party. It is due to this that there was no crowd response during electioneering of top Congress leaders in the state,” he told reporters here.
All those accused and facing corruption charges should keep away from holding positions, he said, adding “Then people’s confidence in the party will go up… this will also enable the party to come back to power in the state.”
Congress, which lost power due to its “anti-people” policies in 1977 in West Bengal, could not return to power in that state in the last 34 years, he said.
