Hyderabad,May 31: The ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday expressed confidence over facing a no-confidence motion, in case it is moved on the floor of the assembly.
“Moving a no-confidence motion is the right of the opposition parties. We have no objection to it. We are ready to face it,” state Congress president D Srinivas told reporters here.
He was replying to a query about the war of words between Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and main opposition TDP on tabling a no-trust vote against the Congress government.
Jagan had charged that TDP was not interested in moving a no-confidence motion, as it had a clandestine agreement with Congress. Asserting that it is ready to move a no-trust vote over farmers’ issues, TDP challenged Jagan to parade MLAs loyal to him before the Governor, so that he can dethrone the Congress government.
Earlier, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had also exuded confidence on facing the no-confidence motion.
Asked about some Congress MLAs still siding with Jagan, Srinivas said there was some confusion over the matter.
“But such MLAs are meeting the Chief Minister and also ministers. There is some confusion over the issue and appropriate action would be taken,” he said.
When pointed out that some Congress MLAs attended a meeting held by Jagan’s party today, the PCC president said nothing of that sort came to his notice.
Replying to a query, Srinivas said the Centre has understood the Telangana issue and would take a decision on it at an appropriate time.
Asked about the threat of some Congress MPs from Telangana to quit their posts if a favourable decision on the separate statehood demand is not taken by June 15, the PCC president only commented, “Let’s see”.
Srinivas appealed to the party leaders and activists to gear up for the coming Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad polls.
