Cong accuses Mayawati of being biased in development schemes

Lucknow, July 26: The Congress today blamed the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh for its biased attitude in implementing development schemes in the state.

”If a state government has a biased attitude against the area where opposition parties have won the elections, then how can the people think of development?” said Congress General Secretary and state party In-charge Digvijay Singh here.

”The state government was discriminating in the regions of the opposition parties, particulary of the Congress MPs and MLAs in the supply of power or even installation of the hand pumps,” he charged.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Singh said ”Ms Mayawati had announced to sent us the copies of the achievements of her government in the last two years but we are yet to receive it.”But the Congress will now send a book of failures of the state government in return of the achievement copy,” he announced.

He alleged that the UP Chief Minister was just interested in politics rather than concentrating on the developmental work. When the people of the state were reeling under the drought situation, the government was just trying to fight with the Centre on different issues.

Asking the Uttar Pradesh government to send the memorandum of the drought-affected areas so that the Central team could visit the region at the earliest to assess the loss, the Congress General Secretary claimed that the state government had enough funds under the Central Calamity Relief which could be spent in the drought-hit districts.

Lashing out at the BSP government, Mr Singh said the party was prepared to launch a mass agitation from August 1, if by then the state government did not recommend a CBI probe into the torching of Ms Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s house on the night of July 15.

”It was a very irresponsible statement from Ms Mayawati in which she said the Congress itself was responsible for the torching of the house. Everyone through the media has seen who were behind the incident,” he said.

He said the agitation to be held at the district and tehsil levels, would reveal all the failures of the state government including power crisis, misuse of public funds on statues and memorials along with other irregularities.

Mr Singh said the all-important Coordination Committee meeting of the UP Congress slated for August 4, could be deferred due to the extention of Parliament session. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was expected to chair the meeting which will decide the roadmap for the ”Mission 2012” Assembly elections in the state.
