New Delhi, April 24: The Congress party turns 125 year old and several celebrations have been organised on this occasion.A Seminar was organised by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee as a part of celebration on ‘Communal Harmony and Indian National Congress’
The seminar was attended by Mani Shankar Aiyar,Anand Sharma and Krishna Tirath along with other MP’s.On this occasion Rajya Sabha member Mr.Mani Shankar Aiyar criticised Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of dividing the Nation.
He said ”Way back in the 16th century, Babur had written to his son Humayun advising him not to try to create religious differences between the people of India. I would like to give the same message to Mr Gadkari.” He then advised the BJP President Mr. Nitin Gadkari to change its Philosophy and terming BJP and RSS as Savarkar’s ”children”, he said the Congress believed in supporting secularism.
Mr Aiyar also said the notion that the two-nation theory was first talked about by the Muslim League was erroneous.
”The idea of a two rashtras within one country was first given by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The BJP and RSS talk about Hindutva but do not know the meaning of the term. They want Muslims to be given secondary treatment in India,” he charged.
Mr Anand sharma Union Commerce and Industry Minister was also present at the seminar.
He talked about the Godhra Carnage in 2002 and said ”The Godhra incident makes us hang our heads in shame. One can tell what part of the country a person belongs to by looking at him but we are all one country.”
Union Women and Child Minister Krishna Tirath said, ”Today’s youth are the descendents of our freedom fighters .Whether it is the BJP or any other force trying to divide the country, it must be reminded that the country is united in its efforts to fight anti-secular ideas.” Highlighting that the Congress was increasingly ensuring participation of the country’s youth,
“With the efforts of Rahul Gandhi, we are including them increasingly.” She added,
