‘Confident’ Woods hopeful of winning Augusta Masters despite underwhelming first round

Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods believes that he can still win a fifth Masters title at Augusta despite falling behind leader Jordan Speith by nine shots at the end of the first round on Friday.

The 14-time major champion ended his opening round one-over-par on his much-anticipated return from injury follo win g a two-month sabbatical from competitive play.

Reflecting on his performance, Woods said that he was still in the game as he was only nine back, insisting that it’s a long way to go, the BBC reported.

The American golfer further said that he felt good out there as he hit the ball well enough to shoot three under par.

Woods, who now ranks outside the top 100 rankings, made some remarkable recoveries, especially on the 12th before finishing the day tied for 41st on one-over 73. (ANI)
