Dhaka: The International Committee of the Red Cross said that the conditions in Myanmar’s northern Rakhine state are not conducive for the repatriation of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya who have fled a military crackdown. ICRC head visited the region on Sunday.
It must be noted that Myanmar had said it is ready to take back the more than 700,000 Rohingya refugees who have fled Bangladesh since August last year. It has also set up two reception centres and a temporary camp near the border in Rakhine to receive the refugees. However, Red Cross president Peter Maurer after his visit to Myanmar said that Myanmar is still not ready for large-scale repatriation.
Maurer told that he saw abandoned villages and destroyed houses.
