Conditional bail to blast accused

Kochi, July 15: The Kerala High Court today granted conditional bail to Abdul Halim, an accused in the Kozhikode twin blast case of 2006, being probed by the National Investigation Agency.

This is the first such instance in the state in which the accused is being released for a non-bailable offence.

Justice K Hema granted bail to Halim on the ground that his detention had exceeded the statutory 180-day period for keeping a person under detention without filing the final report, as per the unlawful activities prevention act.

He was under detention for more than a year and hence his detention was without any authority of law, the court observed.

The court directed the accused to surrender his passport to the Investigating Officer and to appear before the IO as and when required in the case.
