Concerted struggle essential for the restoration of Wakf land of Marriott Hotel

After the Independence of India and cessation of erstwhile Hyderabad State, the Muslims were afraid of demanding their legitimate rights. The status of the Muslims who joined the mainstream politics was such that they were contented with was given to them.

But after 1990’s, the Muslims of India are charged with a new type of energy and courage. The Muslims have also learnt many things from the struggles made by other communities who fought for their rights. They also started to raise their voice for fighting the rights of their own community, the Muslims.

During 2004 elections, various political parties paid special attention to the Muslims, taking into consideration their voting pattern. These political parties started announcing welfare schemes for developing social and economic condition of the Muslims.

This is the reason that the Muslim leaders of various political parties have started coming forward with the welfare schemes of the Muslim community.

In continuation of such efforts, All India Minority Forum has organized a convention today to consider Muslim issues. It is a welcome step.

It is hoped that it will yield fruitful results.
It may be noted that awareness has been created among the Muslims for the protection of Wakf properties. As a result of which, it is not so easy to usurp Muslim Wakf Properties now.

Incidentally, the Muslim Convention is being held at Hotel Marriott, which is constructed on Wakf land.
A section the Muslims raised objection on holding Minorities convention on this illegally usurped property.
Instead of taking its negative effect, the organizers of the convention made it clear that they want the delegates of this convention to know that this function is being held on illegally usurped Wakf land.

They have also declared that efforts would continue for the restoration of this Wakf property.

Very few people know that Marriott Hotel’s old name was Hotel Viceroy, which was constructed on Wakf land. Not only this hotel, but surroundings area consisting of 15 acres have also been usurped by miscreants.

In fact, Hotel Marriott is a wakf property under Sultan Bagh graveyard and travelers’, bungalow trust. Under this Wakf institution, four acres and 4 guntas of land is registered in wakf register. Out of this land, on an area of 2 acres and 18 guntas, Meriot Hotel has been constructed.

Mr. Kanaka Balaraja’s family is in possession of 2000 square yards of Wakf land adjacent to this hotel.
This Wakf property was sold out by the widow of the Mutawalli(custodian), Mr. Ghulam Dastagir, Ms, Siddique Begum and the widows od Mutawalli’s brother Mr. Hafeezuddin, Ms.Fareedunnisa Begum and Ms. Pasha Begum to Ms. D.S. Lakshmi, wife of Lt.Col. D.S Rao and Ms.C. Mohini Kumari, wife of Mr.C. Satyanarayana in 1964.

At that time, Mr. Abdul Ghafoor had raised an objection on this transaction. He made an attempt to protect this Wakf property. His lawyer was Mr. Abdul Wahed Owaisi, Advocate. However, City Civil Court dismissed his petition on the point that the purchasers of this Wakf property produced the evidence of purchasing it for Rs. 1.50 Lakh.

The complainant couldn’t prove his claim of the real value of this property. City Civil Court dismissed his petition saying that it had no jurisdiction over the property exceeding Rs.5,000. Since then, attempts are being made for the restoration of this property.

If any Muslim institution like A.P State Wakf Board makes an attempt to fight this legal battle, the Muslims would certainly support this move. In this way, many problems of the Muslims would be resolved.

If Wakf Board takes up this case, it is not difficult to procure the relevant linked documents of this valuable Wakf property.
