Stressing that former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar’s fake degree issue had been brought out much earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Pankaj Pushkar on Monday said that compromises happen when there is a lack of courage.
“Everyone knows that this issue was brought into notice much earlier. But at that time the party leadership was in a fix. And when there is a lack of courage, then compromises happen. We look for a winning candidate, that is why all this happened,” said Pushkar.
“What’s surprising is that all this was tolerated for so long. If there was suspicion of any kind, it should have been kept out. There was no need to give media an opportunity. And the reasoning that someone else does it too, or that BJP too has done it, is not acceptable,” he added.
The AAP leader also expressed his lack of enthusiasm for the party’s anti-corruption hoardings that have popped up in various parts of the city.
“If it is about our commitment towards fighting corruption, the there is not a great need to publicise it by putting up hoardings. It’s like the police comes to catch a thief with blaring horns from a kilometer’s distance,” said Pushkar.
Earlier, former AAP leader Yogendra Yadav had reportedly alleged that the party knew that Tomar possessed a fake degree.
Tomar was arrested on June 9 and is presently in jail over the fake degree charges. (ANI)
