Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today directed the officials concerned to complete the works of Ranganayaka Sagar project near Chandlapur in three months to irrigate some 1.10 lakh acres in the area.
The State government was spending Rs 463 crore for 3 tmc capacity project to be ready by next rainy season and provide irrigation waters by next Sri Rama Navami festival, he said.
During his surprise visit to the project site, Harish asked the officials to complete the works on a war-footing for which land acquisition of 2,100 acres was complete. Sidhipet will become a place with a circle of reservoirs with Ranganayaka project. On completion, the 70,000 acre ayacut through the left canal and 40,000 acres through right canal will be brought under irrigation, he said. The project will be filled with Godavari waters and turn the dried lands into green in Chinna Kodur mandal, Sidhipet, old Medak district. Also we will shift water from Komarelli Mallanna Sagar to old Nizamabad district he said adding that the Kaleshwaram project will irrigate 19 districts in Telangana. (NSS)
