Complete Kaleshwaram works in time: CM

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today directed that the irrigation projects should be completed with effective coordination of officials and work agencies.

KCR called a meeting on projects with officials, work agencies, collectors of Bhupalapally and Peddapally at Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday morning. KCR inspected the related works including underground tunnel, pump house, canals and construction of other works at Medaram package 6 works in Peddapally district and Ramadugu package 8 in Karimnagar district.

KCR interacted with the officials on the Medaram tunnel works dug up in D shape in 9.53 km stretch that will lift the waters to Annaram and Sundilla barrages and reach Ellampally. From Ellampally through the tunnel the waters will be shifted to a village near Medaram surge pool. It needs 7 pumps with 124.5 MW capacity to shift waters and officials procured six additional pumps as standby which will avoid the problem in future. The chief minister asked the officials to expedite the works and promised all help for the speedy completion of the projects.

As part of Kaleshwaram project focus be made on lifting waters from Kannepally at 105 mt high and shift to Medaram via Annaram and Sundilla and lift waters at Lakshmipur and shift at 99 km of flood flow canal he said. GENCO CMD Prabhakar Rao said that they made arrangements for 973 mw power supply to 7 lifts with 139 mw capacity at Lakshmipur. Rao said that they constructed a 400 mw capacity underground sub-station as they cannot do it in the forest area and hillocks around. BHEL General Manager Sundar Rajan said that they will fix up two pumps by June and 5 more by December. (NSS)
