Complete Hyd Metro Rail project on time: CM to officials

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday asked L&T and Hyderabad Metro Rail Project to complete the prestigious project at the earliest.

Addressing the officials while reviewing the progress of Hyderabad Metro Rail Project with the ministers and officials at the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister asked the officials to ensure that there were no traffic bottlenecks or problems in the city while the Metro Rail works are in progress and the citizens are not put to any difficulties. He told them to ensure that water pipelines and other infrastructures are not damaged.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Project is one of the world’s largest project under Public-Private-Parternship model. It will have three high density traffic corridors of 71 km to be taken up in Phase-I from Miyapur to LB Nagar, Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma and Nagole to Shilparamam. Integration/interchange are planned with existing rail terminals, MMTS stations and bus depots.

The Chief Minister told the HMR and L&T to see that the work does not in any way affect the Biodiversity Convention to be held in City from 1st October to 19th this year.

The Chief Minister also released a film on Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The film with both English and Telugu versions explains the metro rail routes, station designs, pier (pillar) construction and viaduct erection with placement of precast segments; facilities at the stations and depots, etc. It also showcases the way Hyderabad city will look like after Metro Rail is in place, apart from showing the sky-walks, pedestrian facilities etc at the stations.

Ministers D Nagender and Prasad Kumar, Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi, HMRL Managing Director N V S Reddy, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma and other senior other senior officials attended the meeting.

NVS Reddy made a detailed presentation on the progress of various project facilitation works being done by HMR and the project works being undertaken by L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (L&TMRHL).

The Chief Secretary told the Chief Minister that the Special Task Force (STF) headed by him is resolving contentious issues and is regularly monitoring the progress of the project. He said that a sub-committee consisting of Principal Secretaries of R&B, MA&UD, GHMC Commissioner; Commissioners of Police, Hyderabad and Cyberabad; and MD, HMR will periodically inspect the Metro Rail corridors and ensure that the traffic improvement works are implemented for better flow of traffic during construction.

Emphasizing on the need to reduce inconvenience to road users to the maximum possible extent during Metro Rail construction works, the Chief Minister advised MD L&TMRHL VB Gadgil and the HMR MD to further reduce the cycle time of pillar construction; minimize the barrication areas; and go for latest pre-fabrication techniques on a large scale.
