Directing the officials to take up lakes restoration in twin cities on a war-footing, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today warned of dire consequences against encroachers of lakes under GHMC purview.
At a high level review meeting on lakes in the GHMC limits at Secretariat here, he pulled up the officials for tardy pace of the works related to restoration. Directing them to speed up the works, the minister asked them to complete the restof the works in a month time. He also warned that serious action will be initiated if the works are neglected or delayed. The Government has sanctioned Rs 94.17 crore for the purpose; 63 lakes proposed for development; tenders under process for 37 lakes; agreement to be concluded for 23 and works for 3 lakes are in progress. Survey works of 155 lakes was completed so far and the works related to 64 lakes should begin immediately. Out of 169 lakes in GHMC purview – Hyderabad has 23, Ranga Reddy 133, Medak district has 10 lakes, he said. While survey completed for 145 lakes, same is to be done for 14 more lakes in coordination with Revenue department, he said.(NSS)
