Congress MLA and former Minister J. Geeta Reddy, during the Zero Hour on Monday, took everyone by surprise by inviting House’s attention towards an incident of power bill shock claiming the life of an elderly person in Zaheerabad.
Geeta Reddy claimed that residents of Didgi village in her constituency Zaheerabad who are living in huts and houses with tin roofs, were shocked recently when they received inflated power bills for their dwellings. She informed the House that a family received bill to the tune of Rs. 1.07 lakh towards power dues. The elderly of the house approached the officials concerned and represented the matter, but in vain. Worried over inflated bill and threat of action from the department, the man suffered heart attack and succumbed. The former minister asked the government to compensate the family.
Responding to her plea, Minister Jupally Rao assured that the govt. would conduct an in-depth probe into the issue and take necessary action at the earliest.
