Hyderabad, April 25: “The company secretary should not only assist and guide the directors in their pursuit of profit and growth but also act with integrity and independence to protect the interests of the company, its shareholders and its employees.
The secretary plays a key role in the growth of the company,’’ Vijay Mahajan, Chairman of BASIX has said.
He was the chief guest at the concluding day of the Administrative Professionals Week 2010, organised by the Indian Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals, (IASAP) Hyderabad Chapter here today.
Addressing the gathering, Vijay Mahajan called upon all managements of private and corporate companies to give prior assignments to the secretaries as they play key role in the administration.
“The company secretary should play a pro-active role in the governance of the company. This requires excel lent communication skills, thorough knowledge of the company’s business and applicable regulations, integrity, and above all a professional approach,’’ he said.
“Company secretary is key to the efficiency and effectiveness of the board and to the smooth running of the company. To fulfil the role, the company secretary must not only keep up to date the relavant legal, statutory and regulatory requirements but also be able to give impartial advice and support to directors,’’ he said.
Indian Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals, Hyderabad chapter chairperson M Mukunda Mala said the association aims at developing a sense of professionalism, enhance efficiency and to instill a sense of pride in secretarial and administrative work among the professionals.
“The IASAP will relentlessly endeavor to provide a forum for continuous learning and development, a lot of knowledge for meeting future needs and preparing its members to go ahead with greater managerial responsibilities and challenges, given the rapid globalisation and technological advancement scenario,’’ she added.
