Commuter loses life to gap between platform and train at Thane

A 43-year-old man on Monday died after he allegedly fell in the gap between the door of a train compartment and the platform at Thane railway station this morning, railway police said.

Kodakil Vellamuddan Chandran, the victim, arrived in Thane by Kochivili-LTT Garib Rath Express at around 11 am on the platform number 8. Getting down from the train, which was still in motion, he slipped into the gap between the platform and the rake, the GRP said.

He was given oxygen and administered some treatment while trapped. A portion of the platform was broken to extricate him, but he could not be saved, they said.

The train, which was to terminate at LTT in Mumbai, was delayed by 50 minutes due to the mishap. Death or injuries due to falling into the gap between the train and the platform are commonly reported in Mumbai and neighbouring areas.
