Communal unrest in Karnataka after Police raided homes in the late night, two arrested

Communal unrest spreads in coastal Karnataka after the police arrested two people in connection with an assault on a school driver earlier this year in Ullal near Mangaluru.

According to the India Today news Asif (23) and Syed Ummer (25) from Madoor village had assaulted the driver of a school bus in April on the grounds that he had sexually molested a girl.

After the incident the duo was absconding. On Tuesday, the police raided a few homes in Madoor and arrested them.

However, a mob gathered in front of the Ullal police station objectioning to the late night action by the police. The mob also demanded the release of the duo, resulting in a war of words between the parents and people belonging to another group.

The police intervened and request the people to maintain the law and order situation. Ullal, however, continues to remain tense.
