New Delhi, September 19: With the Commonwealth Games just a fortnight away, government today exuded confidence that the sporting extravaganza to be held in the national capital from October 3 to 14 will be splendid affair.
“We will have a splendid games. We will have a splendid opening ceremony,” Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy told reporters after inspecting the main venue of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.
Reddy visited the sports complex which will hold the weightlifting competition and also the main venue of a refurbished Nehru Stadium which was being given finishing touches for the 19th Commonwealth Games.
“The Nehru Stadium is one of the best in the world. It is the best ever in the history of the Commonwealth Games,” Reddy said, adding it would “favourably compare” with the best Olympic stadiums of the world.
