Mumbai, July 15: A committee of experts has been appointed to look into the collapse of a metallic scaffolding structure at the city’s under-construction Metro rail line in the northwest suburb of Sakinaka.
“We have appointed an expert committee comprising construction and safety heads of our international consultants to look into the incident,” K.P. Maheshwari, Director of Mumbai Metro One, said.
The report on the incident is expected to be submitted to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority by Friday, he said.
No one was injured in the collapse of the structure which took place around 10.15 pm on Monday night and it took approximately four hours to clear the scaffolding, officials said.
The incident comes two days after an under-construction metro pillar collapsed in New Delhi leaving six persons dead.
It was too easy to comment on the cause of the collapse but stringent action would be taken against anyone found responsible, Mr. Maheshwari said.
The Mumbai Metro One consortium consisting of Reliance Infrastructure and Veolia which is building the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro line, has appointed Bureau Veritas as third party safety auditors.
