City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma on Friday thanked the people for their cooperation that ensured peaceful conduct of Friday prayers at Mecca Masjid and other mosques in the Old City.
Talking to reporters at the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, Anurag Sharma said that elaborate security arrangements were made around Charminar for the Friday prayers at Mecca Masjid. Further, he said the locals have cooperated with the police which ensured that no untoward incidents take place. He claimed that complete normalcy has returned to the city with all the markets and establishments functioning normally. He expressed confidence that the city would continue to be peaceful in coming days.
The Commissioner informed that so far 33 people have been arrested in connection with the incidents of communal violence in the city. However, he said some people were let off after investigation. He said some minor boys were also picked up, but they were released after they were counseled in the presence of their parents.
Regarding the Moharram, Anurag Sharma said that elaborate security arrangements would be made for Bibi-Ka-Alam procession to be held on November 25. Besides the City Police personnel, forces from neighbouring districts, APSP and six companies of Rapid Action Force would be deployed for the security.
