City Police Commissioner AK Khan on Monday defended the imposition of Section 144 in the city in view of recent incidents of communal violence.
Stating that the Section 144 has been imposed to ensure safety of citizens, he said that the Section 144 Cr PC would continue to be in imposition which would prohibit assembly of five or more persons, every kind of procession, dharna, rally or public meetings.
The police has also prohibited any individual or groups of individuals from making any speech, gesture or displaying pictures, symbols, placards, flags etc., which is likely to create religious animosity or hatred between different communities or individuals or is likely to cause disturbance to the public peace and order in the limits of Hyderabad City.
The Commissioner warned that any person violating the above orders shall be liable for prosecution under the law.
