Commission to begin probe into Jayalalitha’s death today

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Government had earlier announced a probe into former CM Jayalalithaa’s demise. It has set up a commission headed by Justice A Arumugasamy which is to begin today.

Justice A Arumugasamy is appointed to probe the former CM’s demise, from the circumstances that lead to her hospitalization to the treatment she was administered until her demise on 5 December.

The probe into Jayalalithaa’s demise was initiated after a group of AIADMK party leaders suspected that the-then ailing CM’s death was ‘untimely’ since none of the party members were given access to visit her at the hospital.

MP Natarajan, the Tourism Minister, also said even he was not given access to visit Amma. He said, “I did not see Amma (Jayalalithaa) when she was at the Apollo Hospital. We could go only up to the second storey of the hospital. After that no one was allowed (into her room)”, adding, “I will tell this truth to the commission if they summon me and ask me. In fact, all the ministers are ready to depose before the commission.”

Former CMs right hand and AIADMK senior party leader O Pannerselvam demanded probe into her death as a condition for the merger of AIADMK with current CM K Palaniswami’s party.
