Colorado woman sentenced to 100 years for cutting unborn fetus

New York : A Colorado woman, Dynel Lane, has been convicted and sentenced 100 years in prison for cutting a fetus from its mother’s womb.

Lane, a former nurse’s aide was found guilty in February of seven counts against her, including attempted murder and unlawful pregnancy termination. She was yesterday given harshest punishment on both counts.

Lane, 35 had attacked Michelle Wilkins, who was seven months pregnant and had responded to Lane’s online ad for maternity and baby clothes.

Though she survived the attack on March 18, last year, her unborn baby did not.

Wilkins addressed the court yesterday and said that Lane lives in a “narcissistic fantasy.

“You knowingly left me to die multiple times. The only tears you shed during the trial were those of self-pity, to the sound of your own voice as your lies were slowly revealed. Yet even now you cannot come clean about what actually occurred. You embrace your narcissistic fantasy to fulfill the lie you created and it was more important than my right to live and Aurora’s right to live, ” CNN quoted her as saying.

“I believe you should receive the maximum penalty because I believe that you have lost the privilege to live in our society,” she added.

Lane was arrested when she had brought the dead fetus into a hospital on the evening of the attack claimed she had miscarried, something the doctors did not believe.

According to reports, though Lane didn’t speak at Friday’s hearing, her mother, Carol DeHerrera said that her daughter had not recovered from the accidental drowning death of a young son. (ANI)
