Colombia, April 21: A general and six members of the Colombian military have been killed, as two helicopters collide in the Latin American nation’s southwest.
The crash reportedly took place near the province of Tolima on Tuesday when two Bell 222 helicopters slammed into one another, local media reports said.
“One of the helicopters had been taking off without noticing the arrival of the other,” a witness to the incident explained.
Five of the passengers were killed instantly, while two others later died of their wounds in hospital.
The lethal crash also left five people injured.
Among the victims are General Fernando Joya, commander of joint task forces in southern Tolima, one corporal, two colonels and three servicemen.
