Kakinada, February 28: Stressing the need for joint initiative by the government and non-governmental organisations to eradicate polio, district Collector M. Ravi Chandra on Sunday called upon the youngsters to create awareness among the parents of children below five years of age about pulse polio immunisation programme. Inaugurating the Pulse Polio Immunisation programme here at the municipal school in Endowment Colony, Mr. Ravi Chandra said the immunisation would protect children from polio.
He said there were 5.2 lakh children below five years of age in the district, for whom 7.4 lakh polio vaccines were readied. Joint Collector K. Sasidhar, Additional Joint Collector B. Rama Rao and other officials were present.
Meanwhile, cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) participated in the pulse polio booths at Dammulapet area.
