Collector urges agitators not to obstruct census

Sangareddy, February 26: Collector S. Suresh Kumar urged the agitators not to create hurdles for census programme as it was once in a decade exercise and would not be held again.

“We will not get complete data if the census was stopped, based on which the welfare schemes will be planned. The people will lose the benefits,” said Mr. Suresh Kumar while speaking to reporters here on Friday. Stating that it would be taken up again only in 2021 he suggested the agitators to allow census officers to do their work. Referring to statement made by Mahatma Gandhi in regard to non-cooperation movement during the British rule, he said that even Gandhi urged the followers not to block the programme as it was aimed for larger interests. The Collector said that he would hold discussions with the leaders of the none-cooperation movement in this regard.

Informing that about 65 per cent of the census job was completed so far, he said that focus would be on in five to six mandals where the programme achieved only 35 per cent.
