Hyderabad, October 13: Seventeen Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) from Hyderabad city police on Monday appeared before the Hyderabad Collector Navin Mittal after they were summoned to give an explanation for not completing investigations in several cases registered under the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The issue took a serious turn during the previous meetings held last week, when T Vijay Kumar, Deputy Director of Social Welfare furnished wrong data in a report submitted to the District Level Vigilance & Monitoring Committee on the Implementation of People Civil Rights & Prevention of Atrocities Act.
The report was prepared based on the information given by police.
During the review meeting, Mittal asked the police to complete investigations in all pending cases at the earliest. According to the police, there were 85 pending cases which includes 18 cases from last year as well.
“I have called all the Investigating Officers not only to review the progress of cases but also to sensitise them about the importance of the issue,” the Collector said, addressing the police.
During the meeting, P V Ranga Rao, a member of Legislative Council demanded the increase of victim compensation prescribed for different offences. The Collector said the issue would be brought to the notice of the State government.
