Collection of Bimla Devi’s papers handed over to NAI

New Delhi, February 24: A collection of private papers of Bimla Devi ‘Rama’, a niece of Dr Rajendra Prasad, that includes her own works besides letters written by India’s first president, have been handed over to the National Archives of India.

The collection, donated by Bimla Devi’s grandson, includes letters written by some leading figures of India’s independence movement like Rajendra Prasad, Jayaprakash Narayan and Jagjivan Ram, among others.

It also has a collection of poems composed by Bimla Devi during the freedom movement, as also a book edited by her.

Born in 1903, Bimla Devi came into contact with several leaders of the independence movement, including Mahatma Gandhi, JP Narayan and Sarojini Naidu. She was also a champion of women welfare.
