Cold weather kills 43 in Ukraine

Ukraine, February 01: The ministry said that most of the victims are homelesspeople who were found dead on the streets.

It noted that 13 people have died of cold only in the past 24 hours.

Hundreds of people also went to hospitals to receive medical help due to frostbite, hypothermia and other cold-related ailments.

More than 1,735 shelters have been set up to provide food and heat to homeless people, the ministry said.

Temperatures have plunged to minus 30 degrees Celsius (minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit) in some regions.

In the capital city Kiev, authorities ordered the closure of all the schools until February 5 as a severe cold wave is hitting many parts of the European country.
