Cold waves: some schools in Delhi to shut for 5 days

New Delhi, January 11: In view of the intense cold wave condition, the Delhi Government today ordered closure of pre-primary, primary and middle class schools in the city for five days beginning tomorrow. “Due to extreme cold conditions, Government has decided to close down pre-primary, primary and middle class (upto class-VIII) schools for five days,” Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.

He said all Delhi Government and aided schools under the Directorate of Education will reopen on January 18 as January 17 is Sunday. Lovely said a large number of parents of children had requested the government to close down the schools.

Education Department officials said an advisory has also been sent to all unaided recognised and private schools to close their pre-primary, primary and middle classes in view of the cold condition. They said schools recognised by MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board have also been asked to follow the directions.

The capital continued to be in the grip of an intense cold wave with the day temperature remaining well below normal and minimum temperature plummeting to 6.5 degrees Celsius from yesterday”s eight degrees.
