Cold wave reels in Himachal as min temp drops

Shimla:Biting cold waves prevailed in most parts of Himachal as minimum temperatures dropped by few notches.

The local MeT department has predicted rains or snow at many places in the state tomorrow, with rains and snow in mid and higher hills from January 7 onwards as a fresh western disturbance lies over the region.

The cold conditions further aggravated in tribal areas and mid and higher hills as minimum temperature dropped to minus 8.2 degree C at Keylong while Manali, Kalpa , Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded a low of minus 1.8 degree, minus 1.0 degree, minus 0.2 degree and 0.5 degree Celsius.

The high altitude tribal areas groaned under freezing cold waves with minimum temperatures staying between minus 10 and minus 18 degree Celsius.

However, maximum day temperatures rose marginally and Una recorded a high of 24.8 degree, against 23.0 degree yesterday, while Solan, Sundernagar and Bhuntar were warmer at 22.5 degree, 20.8 degree and 19.6 degree.

Shimla recorded a high of 14.7 degree, while Kalpa recorded maximum temperature at 11.6 degree, 5.2 degree above normal.

The prediction of snowfall by local MeT department has brought cheers to hoteliers and apple growers as it would attract tourists during the lean season and prove “white manure” for apple crop.
