Cold wave kills 18 more persons in UP

Lucknow, January 19: Eighteen more persons were killed overnight in different parts of Uttar Pradesh as cold wave swept across the state. While four persons were killed in cold related incidents in Jaunpur, three deaths were reported from Ghazipur.

Kushinagar, Bagpath and Hathras reported two deaths each, while one person each died in Lucknow, Farukkhabad, Moradabad, Unnao and Sultanpur, taking the death toll this winter in the state to 414, officials said. Churk in Mirzapur district, which recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degree Celsius, was the coldest place in the state, followed by Varanasi at 5.1 deg C, Met department said here.

While maximum day temperature in Bahraich was 16.5 deg C, 11 degree below normal, Lucknow recorded a maximum of 16.8 deg C, which was six notches below normal, they said. In Kanpur, the maximum temperature was 16.5 deg C, which was six degree below normal.

Similarly, Gorakhpur recorded a maximum of 13.4 deg C, which was 10 degree below normal.
