Cold wave grips north India

New Delhi, December 18: People in most parts of the northern region witnessed a shivering day today as mercury dipped further by a few notches with Leh in Jammu and Kashmir reeling at minus 15 degrees.

Cold conditions intensified in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with the minimum temperature recording a drop of up to two degrees Celsius at several places.

Rohtak remained the coldest place in Haryana with a low of 4.5 degree Celsius, one notch below normal. While the minimum temperature at Ambala was recorded at five degree Celsius, it settled at 6.4 in Karnal — both places recording two notches below normal.

Amritsar and Patiala shivered at a low of 4.8 and 6 degrees Celsius respectively.

In the national capital, the mercury sank to below nine degree Celsius while the Weatherman predicted further dip in temperature in the coming days.
