Cold wave abates, fog throws normal life out of gear

Chandigarh, January 03: A thick blanket of fog at many places in Punjab and Haryana threw normal life out of gear for the second day today, but there was some respite from severe cold conditions which had gripped the region during the past fortnight as minimum temperatures increased between 2-6 degrees celsius.

Ending the long dry spell, rains lashed many places including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Ambala, Karnal, Hisar and Rohtak, the Met office said here.

Fog continued to engulf the region affecting normal life.

All incoming and outgoing flights from Chandigarh stood cancelled due to bad weather.

A number of trains passing through Punjab and Haryana were running late between 1-8 hours on account of foggy weather while poor visibility due to fog also hampered the normal movement of vehicular traffic in the region.
